Under the aegis of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 15, Panchkula organized an Awareness Programme on the Prevention of Substance Abuse in the school auditorium. The initiative was a part of a nationwide campaign aimed at sensitizing students and educators towards the growing menace of substance misuse and promoting collective responsibility in fostering a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environment.
The event was graced by distinguished dignitaries including Sh. Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Regional Officer, CBSE, Panchkula, and Sh. Sujeet Kumar Singh, Superintendent, NCB, whose esteemed presence elevated the stature and purpose of the occasion. Both dignitaries addressed the gathering, underlining the pivotal role of schools in fostering awareness, resilience, and informed decision-making among students to combat the growing threat of drug abuse and substance dependence.
The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolizing enlightenment, knowledge, and awareness, followed by a formal welcome address by the Principal, Mrs. Gulshan Kaur. In her address ,she warmly welcomed the guests and expressed gratitude to CBSE and NCB for their continued efforts in initiating such awareness programmes. She emphasized the crucial need for early sensitization, open dialogue, and value-based education to empower students to make informed decisions and resist peer pressures. She also reiterated the school’s commitment to holistic education that nurtures both intellect and character.
This was followed by the felicitation of the esteemed guests, acknowledging their invaluable contribution to the cause of youth empowerment and preventive education.
A comprehensive PowerPoint presentation was then delivered by Sh. Amar Shankar, E Officer, which provided deep insights into the prevention of drug abuse, the functioning of the Drug Administration, and the various types of drugs. The presentation also highlighted the preventive measures, outreach strategies, and coordinated institutional efforts being implemented at both national and regional levels to effectively combat the menace of substance abuse. The audience was further engaged through the screening of specially curated awareness videos, an impactful musical and theatrical presentation by the students, and a collective pledge against drug abuse, wherein participants reaffirmed their shared resolve to promote healthy, mindful, and drug-free lifestyles.
The expert-led interactive session that followed proved to be a highlight of the event. It provided valuable guidance on identifying early warning signs of substance exposure, the importance of maintaining mental and emotional well-being, and strengthening the communication bridge among parents, teachers, and students. The session underscored the importance of preventive awareness as a key to combating the issue at its roots.
Principals, Counsellors, Teachers, and Student Representatives from Thirty-Five CBSE- affiliated schools across Panchkula actively participated in the deliberations. The discussions reflected collective insights on addressing the evolving challenges faced by adolescents in today’s complex social environment and emphasized the need for joint institutional responsibility in nurturing awareness, empathy, and resilience among youth.
The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by the Vice Principal, Mrs. Sonia Pabby, who expressed heartfelt appreciation to the dignitaries and partner organizations for their valuable guidance and encouragement. She extended gratitude to all participating schools for their active involvement and reaffirmed Bhavan Vidyalaya’s commitment to continuing such meaningful initiatives that strengthen the moral and emotional fabric of young minds.
